Get Organized in Your Bathroom with this Neat Pine Tabletop

I would like to start off this post to remind everyone that the best support a fresh entrepreneur could get, would be from his or her close relatives and close friend circle.

By writing that, I can hear my mother saying "I keep giving you work to do for me and I wait ages...". But I eventually come around and you'll find some of the work I did for my parents.

This particular project is one of the very first woodwork request I received and it was from a good friend whom I met during an activist meeting. Now that I mention this, I guess it would good to put in a few words relating to the Environmental cause, as well as a few others which I feel concerned about.

But anyway, at that time, I had sacrificed my garage to do these projects and build for the house itself. That allowed me enough space to work on lengthy planks. I did not own a table-saw but managed clean cuts with a circular saw. My friend wanted a very simple Double Wash Basin Table Top, rendered with the provided Pine Wood's natural color. This furniture had to be installed between two walls and the challenge here was that it had to be removed easily if ever the family would need to move to another house. The plumbing needed to be completely concealed but accessible, should there be any repairs. So I designed the project having three parts. The first being the bottom base with the left, right and back edge hooked to the walls. The second part would be the H shape shelf in the middle. This part could slide in on the bottom base and hide the plumbing and at the same time create shelf spaces for towels etc. The Top part which would hold the two wash basins also had the same hook system to the walls. I cut out a square for each basin so that the edge of the basin sits nicely on the tabletop. Many basins often come with an irregular bottom base and doesn't sit neatly on tabletops. We end up using a lot of silicon to maintain it level.

The three parts of this furniture was all separate and could easily be delivered in a car, which is how I did.

I enjoyed sanding smoothly all surfaces as well as giving a slight rounded edge in front. I sealed every corner and surface, sanded down then applied a clear strong marine varnish so water would just slide off.

It was a pleasure working on this furniture due to its challenges in design and seeing how the end result would be. From there, I kept in mind that for any project design, always take into account how installation will proceed. Consider accessibility, space where furniture will be fitted and how parts can be assembled on-site instead of delivering a structure that would not be practical for carry nor installation.
