Uplift the Décor in Your Office with these Wooden Planters on Wheels
In the first months of running my workshop, I was handed with a very interesting task, that of creating planters for an office.
At that time, getting a job like that would mean quite a lot for me. It would grant me the opportunity of planning a project from Design all the way through Execution in the workshop to Delivery. An opportunity to learn to deal with Customer feedback and render the best end result. It would also mean that the quality of work delivered would be a display of what The Handyman is capable of and in turn, hopefully, attract new Clients.
These must have been one of the best work I did for an office in Mauritius. This company had recently renovated their office with a whole new look and design. The carpets were replaced with an industrial concrete look epoxy flooring, all new design office tables and chairs and a fresh bright paint on the walls. What would be an ideal addition to the decor than having nice green leaves here and there.
This is where the planters came in. The Client requested rectangular wooden planters which could be easily maintained and moved around if need be. Since the inside could get contact with water, I went with a hardwood that could go for years if well treated and sealed.
I made and assembled all parts in the workshop. This is a good practice when it comes to structures of this size. They need to be tested in terms of strength of structure, mobility and safety.
Once assembled, I sealed them inside and out, leaving no cracks where water could penetrate.
As the Client needed its mobility to be accessible to anyone in the office, I made the planters floating with about 6mm off the floor using wheels concealed underneath. It was quite fun pushing these babies around.
To go with the new look of the office, these planters needed to be painted completely white, a very good choice when you want the plants to stand out. I did not possess an air compressor back then which I could use to air-spray the white paint so paint rollers and brush had to do the job.
