The Amazing Handmade Pine Wood Tree Bookshelf
I previously wrote briefly about the best support any entrepreneur could have should first come from his or her entourage, whether family or close friends.
Here is yet another example of what great ideas can come from friends who believe in your potential. A very close friend of mine who has been a great moral support starting off my Handyman Workshop in Mauritius, suggested I make this awesome piece of Deco furniture. He taught me to always look into not only the aesthetic aspect of a creation but its practicality as well. Making this particular furniture helped me to understand better the purpose any item made could have.
This is a simple yet amazing set of pine wood handmade bookshelf which has a tree branches shape which is designed to use minimum space in a room but at the same time made to contain multiple of books. It may also be used to expose other deco items. It can be either fixed to a wall or placed on an office table bringing your books closer to you when working.
This particular project, as simple as it may seem, was an opportunity to learn about laying out the process of a project. -Where to begin and how to assemble together the parts, where gluing and screwing.
-What would the finish be, a clear varnish coated natural pine or dark walnut.
The answer to that finish look is what the client would want it to be. Since this was my first specimen, I went with a dark walnut because I wanted it to contrast with the bright colors of my living room furniture and most importantly expose nicely the books placed on it.
It was initially an idea that was intended to be a potential product I could put up for sale, it meant too much too me that I decided to keep it and use it as a sample in use.
I would definitely recommend this bookshelf for anyone looking for an interesting DIY project.
I used a treated pine 16mm x 19cm plank of about 3m which was left from a previous project. If you are a regular DIYer, then you would most probably have the basic tools to carry out this project. In any case, a saw, wood glue, some screws, wood stain, a paint brush or cloth and an electric screw/drill driver would be what you need. An electric screw/drill driver is a very good investment for many DIY project or repairs you could have around the house.
While writing out this experience, I think I might just make another two or three other pieces with perhaps different tints. Projects like these open possibilities of varying designs. I leave it to you to comment on what other ideas could come from this bookshelf.
